This practice reflects the spirit of education in China. As Confucius Temple and the local public school combined is referred as school palace, if the central school is to match Piyun of the Zhou Dynasty, local public school then matches Stone Arch of Higher Learning Institution of the Zhou Dynasty. As both Piyun and Pan Palace are adjacent to a semi-circular pool, a semi-circular pool is available by the movement line in all local Confucius Temples to suggest the combination of the temple and the school. Besides, the stone arch is named as Pan Palace for the same reason.
Yuan Shu erected Pan Palace in the Tainan Confucius Temple in 1749 and it bears 4 columns and 3 rooms.
